"Jane
and I arrived at the Wulfrun Hall at around 5.30pm and by that
time there were a good few people queuing at the front doors.
We found Kumar and went into the venue to conduct our interview
with the band, discovering that Steve's hair has had yet another
re-vamp (!) and Josh was suffering from some kind of flu-type
thing which was seriously threatening his voice, prompting Stuart
to advise us that he would be "talking for Josh"! After the
interview we went walkabout in Wolverhampton, causing us to
unfortunately miss both of the support bands!
The
screams were deafening as Josh, Stuart and Steve took to the
stage, Stuart in his "CCCP" jacket, Josh in a blue t-shirt with
his baseball cap on backwards (never has such a suspect fashion
suited someone so well), and the lovely Steve in a stripey little
number with his trademark flared cords - prompting me to remark
to Jane "I wonder if Steve has some sort of deal with the company
that makes those trousers?!". Straight into "Kinda Day I've
Had" and the crowd went ballistic! Never mind that Josh wasn't
hitting all of the notes (due to his illness) - the crowd more
than made up for it with the first three rows of "die-hards"
literally screaming every single word!!! The support that the
Dum Dums are getting is growing with every gig - and they so
deserve it. We were treated to a new song "Burn all the Photographs"
which has a wonderfully catchy chorus and infectious riff (a
little like Nirvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit" but only a little!),
plus Josh and Stuart's wonderful rendition of the "Fresh Prince"
rap complete with Stuart's "human beatbox" and Josh's hip hop-style
dancing!!! This really has to be seen to be believed.....
