The
Leadmill as a venue does not look great from the outside, a remark
I made upon first sight of the place was "it needs a bomb dropping
on it!", and to be honest, while we were queuing outside the venue,
and Josh came out to do some shopping (I guess!) I was indeed
worried for his welfare! Anyway he arrived back in one piece and
after asking our opinion on whether we thought that the security
would let him back in with his pass (we assured him they would!)
he dissappeared into the venue and right on cue they opened the
doors to us lot at 7pm.
Once inside the venue it looked a lot better, despite the decor
verging on the *very* purple! There was no barrier in front of
the stage (always a good thing in my opinion!), so Jane and I
positioned ourselves off centre to the right in front of the rough
area where Steve would be! (Biased? Moi?!). We were treated to
the ...ahem...*delights* of The 45's....who, true to their performance
of last week at Gloucester reminded us that they were the 45's
inbetween every song! The tunes were more pleasing to the ear
this time but they still don't do much for me! Maybe it's just
that I have little patience with supports when it's a Dum Dums
gig!
Anyway,
after more of the pre-gig tape (Wheatus, Hole, Lit, Nirvana...bit
of class!), the lights went down, and the boys were onstage, Stu's
woolly hat having reclaimed it's rightful position on his head,
Josh in the "zero" top with the ridculously baggy jeans and thankfully
not the holey trainers (!), and Steve in one of his many millions
of pairs of flarey cords, this time in grey with a blue-ish t-shirt
(*and* the bracelet I gave him at Gloucester - cue Lindz getting
all over-excited!). "Kinda day I've had" kicked off the set as
usual, and this time we heard "All hooked up" (definately my *favourite*
live Dum Dums song) and "Photographs" which is just sounding stronger
all the time, definately *single* material I think! Steve pleased
me by giving Dumfounded fanzine a plug from the stage which made
my night! Josh seemed to be having trouble remembering a lot of
the lyrics tonight and during Fresh Prince there was an impromptu
performance of Outkast's "Miss Jackson" from the front row!
