"Upon
arrival at the Junction, we discovered it was in the middle
of an industrial estate, a salubrious setting by all accounts!!
The queue when we arrived at 4pm was fairly non-existent,
but by 6pm there were a fair few people desperate for a glimpse
of the Dum Dums. We were let into the venue, and then held
in the bar while the support bands performed some sort of
soundcheck/scream down the mic type thing!!!
After
being let into the main hall, we positioned ourselves on the
barrier, and within five minutes we were treated to the "new
suburban sound" of Contempo. This band had a huge line-up, a
Liam/Ian Brown hybrid-lookalike singer, a trombonist and a saxophone
player, various guitarists etc etc. They were really held together
by their charismatic frontman who took great pleasure in terrifying
members of the audience with his onstage jumping antics. Next
up were Lowfinger, who, it transpired featured another consistently
bonkers frontman and a female singer not unlike Bjork (and certainly
as mad!), I wasn't too impressed by the tunes but the stage
show certainly held my interest, and they are the first band
I have seen in a long time who incorporate a squeezebox into
their live set..."
